CHICAGO, Aug. 30, 2005

The McCormick Tribune Foundation and several of its communities program partners have started a campaign to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina, which recently swept through Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

The McCormick Tribune Foundation Hurricane Katrina Relief Campaign will support non-profit organizations providing assistance to those victims hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina. Those who wish to donate can call the toll-free phone number 1-800-508-2848 or mail a check to McCormick Tribune Foundation, 435 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 790, Chicago, IL 60611. Online donations can be made over a secure site: www.mccormicktribune.org

The McCormick Tribune Foundation will match the first million dollars donated to the campaign at 50 cents on the dollar. All administrative costs will be paid by the foundation so all funds raised and the matching dollars can be given directly to disaster relief organizations that provide short- and long-term aid to those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

About the McCormick Tribune Foundation’s Communities Program

The only program of its kind in the country, the foundation’s communities program is designed to encourage and improve the social and economic conditions of 32 communities nationwide by leveraging the knowledge and local presence of newspapers, television and radio stations, and sports organizations around the U.S. To date the communities program has awarded $617 million in grants to local and national organizations.

About the McCormick Tribune Foundation

The McCormick Tribune Foundation is one of the nation’s largest charitable organizations, with combined assets of close to $1.5 billion. In 2004 the foundation approved the distribution of more than $109 million to invest in communities, address human needs and promote the ideals of a democratic society through innovative partnerships. The foundation, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2005, was first established as a charitable trust upon the death of Col. Robert R. McCormick, longtime editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune.

The foundation provides assistance in four program areas — communities, education, journalism and citizenship — and funds a special initiatives program. Through its grants, the foundation seeks to improve the social and economic environment; encourage a free and responsible discussion of issues affecting the nation; enhance the effectiveness of American education; and stimulate responsible citizenship. For more information, visit http://www.mccormicktribune.org/.

The foundation is an independent non-profit foundation, separate from Tribune Co., with substantial holdings in Tribune Co.
