Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards
In 1994, the Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards were established to honor outstanding early
childhood educators from the Chicago metropolitan area. The Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards
were the first teacher recognition program exclusively designed to acknowledge the talents and contributions
of early childhood educators working in the diverse early education settings which include schools, child
care centers, Head Start programs, state pre-kindergartens and licensed family care homes. The program has
become a national model.
The result of a partnership between the Dolores Kohl Education Foundation and the McCormick Foundation,
two of Chicago’s leading philanthropic organizations, the awards lend a new level of prestige to the work of these
teachers in the educational community and with the public at large.
